GENERAL INFORMATION
KEEPING COMFORTABLE
- Drinks
- Snacks
- Comfy clothes
Your blood sugar can drop really quickly when getting tattooed, you have to eat well on the day of your tattoo and bring snacks and drinks to your appointment.
It is really important that you are as comfortable as possible during your tattoo appointment. So bring anything that will help you keep still and comfy, if that means blankets and pyjamas - bring them. Tattooing can be quite a messy process especially if you are having large colour pieces done, so don't wear clothing that you are bothered about becoming stained.

DAY OF TATTOO
Amy will have dressed your new tattoo with either Clingfilm for Blackwork or Second skin for colour. Aftercare differs ever so slightly for these two types of dressing. Please read the relevant aftercare instructions below.

Clingfilm
Amy has dressed your tattoo in cling film. Please keep this on your tattoo for 2 to 3 hours. When it comes to removing the clingfilm please follow these steps.
* Wash your hands with antibacterial soap
* Open the tattoo and throw away the clingfilm
* Wash your hands again
* Wash your tattoo in clean warm water with antibacterial soap, be very gentle using circular motions to wash the plasma away. Do not scrub at the new tattoo.
* Do not recover your tattoo this is a great way to get an infection if you recover it in clingfilm as it traps sweat and other bacteria against the new tattoo.
* Pat your new tattoo dry with fresh kitchen towel and wait for one to two hours for it to fully air dry.
* Once completely dry apply a small amount of tattoo balm (pea sized per 10 cm square.

Second Skin
* Amy has dressed your tattoo in second skin you ideally need to keep this on for three days. Over the next three days you will develop a little ink sack inside the second skin, this a normal bodily response to being tattooed it is just plasma and excess ink. DON'T POKE IT.
* If your Second Skin begins to leak and your tattoo is showing in anyway, the second skin need to be removed and the tattoo washed immediately. This is because if plasma can get out then bacteria can get in.
* To remove the second skin get in the shower and wash your hands with antibacterial soap.
* Pickle up the bottom corner of the second skin and pull down, do not rip up! This will slowly release the second skin from the body.
* This can be an uncomfortable process so splashing warm running water from the shower with antibacterial soap can help lift the second skin away.
* Once the second skin has been removed wash the tattoo gently with antimicrobial soap in circular motions remove any plasma from the skin.
* Once you are out of the shower and probably quite tired from removing the second skin, pat the tattoo dry with fresh kitchen towel.
* Allow the colour tattoo to air dry for around six to eight hours before applying tattoo balm.

Next 4-6 days Blackwork / Next 14-28 days Colour
* Use the aftercare balm three times a day morning noon and evening, washing and patting dry with kitchen towel in between.
* DO NOT submerge your new tattoo, shower instead of bathing.
* NO SWIMMING OR GOING TO THE GYM. This is a sure fire way to pick up and infection.
* Be careful what your tattoo touches, especially for the first week or two, certain areas of your body are more prone to picking up infection than others because of what they touch. Think wrists and keyboard etc. However you can pick up and infection anywhere. Bacteria is everywhere even on your clothing. Be mindful of what you are wearing, lose clothing made of natural fibres like cotton are advised. Equally don't go splashing in puddles in flip flops with fresh foot tattoos. Just common sense stuff.
* If you have pets keep them away from your tattoos, no matter how cute they are.
* Your tattoo will be itchy while it is healing DO NOT scratch of pick at it, Amy will be able to tell and she will be quite sad about it.
* DO NOT go out in the sun with a fresh tattoo your skin will be super sensitive and you will completely mess up that expensive piece of artwork you've just added to your body.
* YOUR TATTOO IS AN OPEN WOUND TREAT IT AS SUCH!

After Initial Healing
* Use a moisturiser you like, you don't have to keep using the expensive tattoo balm once it has healed although you can if you like. If you keep moisturising it will keep your tattoo looking lucent and prevent it from drying out. This is especially important for colour tattoos.
* Avoid the sun as best you can and if your skin is exposed apply factor 50 sunscreen made bespoke for tattoos.
